2025 was a year of give and take for tech users around the world. More people learned to use Generative AI tools for far more than just answering a question or two, with AI-generated photos and videos penetrating almost every imaginable internet space. On the other hand, children under 16 in Australia lost access to a number of social media and entertainment platforms as more governments address the impact of digital platforms on young people’s mental health.
On the gadgets side of industry, Apple launched its new iPhone 17 series, with the ultra-thin Air variant making headlines world over. However, its inability to ship its AI-enhanced Siri offering continued to disappoint customers. Meanwhile, Google launched its Pixel 10 lineup, including a new foldable model. Gadget lovers are looking forward to 2026 as it heralds the arrival of tri-fold smartphones, but there are concerns about memory shortages and the rising price of devices.
Cryptocurrency continued to enthrall investors and users globally while India once again came to the forefront in terms of grassroots adoption, in spite of regulatory challenges and the complicated aftermath of exchange hacks.
