Elon Musk’s X rolls out Grok 4.1 model, end-to-end encrypted Chat

Elon Musk’s AI company xAI announced the rollout of the new Grok 4.1 model that it said was “exceptionally capable in creative, emotional, and collaborative interactions”.

Grok 4.1 is based on the same large scale reinforcement learning infrastructure that powered Grok 4, and had a silent rollout between November 1 and 14, according to the company’s blog post.

xAI noted that when compared to the previous production model in traffic, Grok 4.1 was preferred 64.78% of the time. In response to emotional prompts, Grok 4.1 provided longer answers loaded with more melodrama and sympathy/empathy when compared to the previous Grok model’s shorter and more professional responses.

“We are excited to introduce Grok 4.1, which brings significant improvements to the real-world usability of Grok. Our 4.1 model is exceptionally capable in creative, emotional, and collaborative interactions. It is more perceptive to nuanced intent, compelling to speak with, and coherent in personality, while fully retaining the razor-sharp intelligence and reliability of its predecessors,” said xAI in a blog post on November 17.

Grok 4.1 is available to all users on grok.com, X, and the iOS and Android apps.

Apart from the rollout of of Grok across X, the social media platform announced the Chat secure messaging feature on November 15.

X noted that Chat offered end-to-end encrypted chats and file sharing, the ability to edit/delete messages, screenshot blocking and detection features, and no ads or tracking. Voice memos are also set to return, per the official Chat handle on X.
